You can take the highway 116 to Hvar town or venture along a scenic small road that leads through the abandoned settlements of Malo Grablje and Velo Grablje, villages that were evacuated in the 1960s. After soaking in the beauty of these abandoned villages, head to the Franciscan Monastery, a stunning church located on a beach with some of the clearest water you’ll ever see.
As you wander through the old town and climb the hills, you’ll reach the Spanish Fortress, which overlooks the entire city. Whether you’re relaxing at one of the many public baths or taking a refreshing swim at the nearby beaches, there’s plenty to enjoy.

Day 6: Ready to Explore Trpanj?
Journeying from Hvar Town to the Trpanj Peninsula
After spending time in Hvar island, it’s time for a long drive to your next destination. The route will take you on a scenic journey, 4-6 hours depending on which path you choose. If you’re feeling adventurous, skip the main highway (116) and drive along a beautiful coastline route through Zavala, where you’ll see the breathtaking Red Rocks of Hvar and can even stop at beach Jagodna, one of the finest beaches in the country.
As you continue, you’ll reach the Tunnel Pitve, a narrow tunnel that connects you back to the main highway. After a stop for a quick break, you’ll catch the Sucaraj to Drvenik ferry, which runs every 3 hours until 9:30PM and takes about 35 minutes.
Once you reach the other side, take the highway D8, which offers stunning views of the mountains and water as you drive toward Ploce and eventually reach Trpanj. If you’re staying in a seaside hotel or Airbnb in Orebic, you’re in for a peaceful treat.
For those who are short on time, an alternate route through Komarna and Brijesta may be faster, thanks to a new bridge that opened in spring 2023, bypassing the border crossing with Bosnia.
